Confession: I love working in the nursery! That being said, working in the nursery is a hard job. There may be some people that have even thought, “I’ll never work the church nursery!” Many sweet Christian people with good intentions have decided that the nursery is not the ministry for them. Some of their reasons may be that they don’t want to accidentally feed a child something he is allergic to; or what if a child fell and hurt themselves! These things could very well happen, but they also may not. What if the Lord has a special blessing waiting for you in your church nursery?

I know what you are thinkin–the nursery has enough workers, they probably don’t need me! Let me assure you that the nursery NEEDS YOU! The nursery is a wonderful ministry that helps give parents a chance to refresh their hearts in the Word of God and enjoy Christian fellowship. If your church has a nursery, there is someone in your church who is working tirelessly to make sure there are enough workers to cover Sunday School, Sunday morning, Sunday Evening, Wednesday night, and any special meetings and conferences your church might host. This takes a lot of workers! My husband and I have made a list of our top three reasons to work the nursery.

  1. You have the opportunity to meet new families and strengthen existing friendships:

Brett and I attend a rather large church and we both have more introverted personalities. Working in the nursery was such a great way for us to meet new people, and we have made some amazing friends! There is something about serving others that breaks down barriers and strengthens bonds.

  1. You get to work with children:

This one may seem a little obvious, but I wanted to include it because it is definitely a highlight! There is a quote by Mr. Charles Spurgeon that burdens my heart for children every time I read it; “You may speak but a word to a child, and in that child there may be slumbering a noble heart which shall stir the Christian church in years to come.” Never underestimate the influence that we can have on the little ones of the church. My little girl is not even two and already walks around the house singing the B-I-B-L-E as loud as she can.

  1. Serving is an opportunity to show the Lord our love:

When I think of everything that the Lord has done for me, how He saved me and how He keeps me, I can’t help but feel a debt to Him! I love serving in the nursery because it is an opportunity for me to thank the Lord for what He has so graciously done for me.

Working in the nursery can be a struggle, but it always turns out to be a blessing! I hope that you will consider being a blessing to get a blessing and work in the nursery.
